Mohammed Slimani

We met Mohammed randomly in Figuig, in the far South-East of Morocco, at the border with Algeria, and what a nice encounter ! 

He showed us around his hometown, a city with a millennia of fascinating history which he gave us a glimpse into, all the while stopping here and there with us to meet some of his friends. All these good people told us stories about the village, about the region, about the Amazigh people and their culture.

What we got to learn about Mohammed is that he is an official guide of the region, and you can really feel the passion for it and its people, its customs, when walking around with him.

He has been a guide for many years now, and works with associations for tourism development in the Moroccan Orient. Organizing events with and for the Amazigh people, first occupiers of the region. The thing to know is, Figuig has been, despite its long and flourishing history, slowly losing inhabitants due to droughts, economic emigration, and the aging of the population. And Mohammed is working to maintain the culture there. If you end up in this part of the World, we strongly suggest you pay this great guide a visit, you won't regret it.
